John and Betty Sue Support Hospice of Huntington.  John and Betty Sue Haden Kinzer are long time supporters of Hospice.  Recently, they were instrumental in a fundraising campaign for the new Hospice House.  They organized a special fundraising event "Bella Luce" with longtime friends Jim and Verna Gibson.  290 people attended the event, which started with a cocktail party and silent auction at the Gibson's home.  Then, dinners were hosted at 17 houses in the community.  One was at the home of Howard "Buck" and Pat Crews.  Other members and friends of the HHS Class of 1960 were in attendance.  John Kinzer has been on the board of Hospice of Huntington since 1982.  John and Betty Sue are active on the fundraising committee.  The "Bella Luce" event raised over $97,000 for the new Hospice House in Huntington on the River.

Vickie Leads Pullman Square Project.  Vickie Shaffer, General Manager of the Huntington Transit Authority and wife of Ed Shaffer, recently was acknowledged as the driving force behind the Pullman Square Downtown project in Huntington.  In an article from The Herald-Dispatch, columnist Scott Wartman described Vicky as "one of the keys to bringing entities of the city, state and federal levels together to fund the public portion of the $60 million entertainment, retail and parking center.  Business leaders said she was a driving force in keeping Pullman Square alive when many were skeptical."

Wartman also writes, "Shaffer became involved in Pullman Square in 1997 when then-Mayor Jean Dean sought federal funding to jumpstart the Pullman Square project. When the city set its sights on a transportation grant, the city relied on TTA to apply for and receive the transportation grant that would begin development of the Superblock with establishing parking garages, bus service and further development to pave the way for private developers to establish retail and entertainment.  "With such a large portion of the project's funds coming through her office, she shouldered tremendous responsibility', said Ron Smith, chairman of the Huntington Urban Renewal Authority. The Huntington Urban Renewal Authority sold the Superblock site to TTA and Metropolitan Partners, the private developer of Pullman Square."

You can see Vicky at Classmate Photos and also read the full article from the Herald-Dispatch at:

That is Wilsie Hale's Baby Brother.  Another one of us has a famous sibling who was instrumental in the Pullman Square Project in Huntington.  That is Wilsie Hale's brother Ben.  Wilsie writes, "Pullman Square would not be in Huntington had it not been for my baby brother, Ben Hale, Jr.  He received a Citizen Award being recognized as an outstanding person of the Tri-State in April.  Ben is an attorney in Columbus who helped The Limited develop about 6 million sq ft of office space and distribution centers and other projects in and around Columbus.  He brought Tim Rollins, then a member of The Limited's real estate department, and Bill Dargusch, executive vice president of Continental Real Estate Cos, who were developing the pilot concept, to Huntington. When Tim Rollins left the Limited to become president of Metropolitan Partners, he took the Huntington project with him.  At the beginning of the Pullman project, Ben worked closely with everyone.  It took a tremendous amount of people to bring Pullman Square to realization.  And THAT is Wilsie Hale's baby brother!!"  Wilsie.

New Cyberpony - Pat Warne Vaughan.  Pat and her husband Arvin (HHS'56) live in Centerville, Ohio.  They have been married 46 years now.  Pat says that she is a full time grandma with 10 grandchildren from the ages of 1 to 12.  They have four children who live in IL, OH, and GA.  Pat and Arvin enjoy travel and can follow the sun to their summer home in Michigan and winter home in Florida.  Pat's parents live near them in Dayton in a Retirement Village.  Pat and Arvin are active in their church and participate in mission trips.  Pat is looking forward to hearing from her friends from HHS.  Her e-mail address is pvaughan@fincounsel.com.  See Pat and Arvin at Classmate Photos.

New Cyberpony - Donna Cooke Henderson.  Donna and her husband Gil live in Chicago, IL.  She tells me, "I came to Chicago in 1964.  I met Gil at Moody Bible Institute where we were students.  We were married after graduation (36 years ago) and remain in Chicago.  I went on to obtain undergrad and graduate degrees from Chicago universities.  My undergrad degree is from National College of Education (Adult Education/Human Resources) BS and grad degree is from National-Louis University (Management and Business development) MS.  I also graduated from the Human Resource Institute for Training and Development."

Donna is VP of Education and Research.  She explains, "I am responsible for education program development and research for several major professional and trade associations in Chicago.  I develop curricula, plan training programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, conventions, etc.  I participate in programs as teacher, trainer, lecturer, both nationally and internationally.  I have taught for several Chicago colleges and also at Ohio State University for special classes.  (My expertise is business related.)  I was chair of the business department at one inter-city college."

"I keep very busy balancing my home life, career and church responsibilities.  I just returned to Chicago after four months in Daytona Beach, Florida taking care of my mother, who has been ill.  I had the pleasure of going through four hurricanes; my mother held up very well.  We were fortunate.  We only sustained about $30,000 worth of damage to our home. Others in our area were not so fortunate.  They lost everything."

"Thanks for adding me to your address book.  You may share my e-mail with the HHS group.  I would be delighted to hear from anyone who wants to correspond."  Donna's e-mail address is donnamhenderson@yahoo.com.

Islamic Community Honors Retiring Episcopalian Pastor.  The Charleston Gazette recently published an article (by Susan Williams) about Rev. Esber Tweel.  His wife is our classmate Carol Lynn Fields Tweel.  Susan writes, "The Rev. Esber Tweel's faith and his experience with martial arts help him to deal with his physical problems.  But after a difficult summer of battling the disease (polymyositis) that is causing his muscle structure to deteriorate, Tweel decided he will retire as pastor of the Episcopalian Church of the Good Shepherd in Kanawha City.  As part of Ramadan celebrations, members of the Islamic community also honored Tweel on Sunday. Tweel has always been 'a strong and good friend of the community,' Mohammad Jamal Daoudi, the imam of the Islamic Association of West Virginia, said.  Tweel said, 'I have always been passionate about the Middle East.' Tweel's family has its roots in the Middle East, and he has traveled there several times in hopes of fostering peace."

"Tweel will be retiring soon from Good Shepherd after 30 years, but he hopes to start a program to bring children from war-torn countries to the United States.  Members of his own congregation, including West Virginia Gov. Bob Wise, honored him with a special celebration the last weekend in October, and members of the Islamic community came to his church, too. Wise presented him with the Distinguished West Virginian award, and he was made rector emeritus. He will remain at Good Shepherd through December."

You can see the full article at http://www.wvgazette.com/webtools/print/News/Today/2004110716.  Carol Lynn is pictured with Esber (second from right) in the photo.

Tom Simpkins.  See Tom's photo at Classmate Photos.  Tom and his wife Dottie live in Huntington.  He is a retired firefighter.

Hanna Booth Medors.  Hanna and her husband Carl live in Jacksonville, Florida.  Hanna is a Realtor for ERA Davis and Linn.  See Hanna's photo at Classmate Photos.

John Rose.  John continues to work full time as a Real Estate Appraiser in Shalimar, Florida.  See John's photo at Classmate Photos.

Ginny Enjoys the Memories.  Virginia Sullivan Spradley writes, "I certainly have enjoyed looking at and reading the HHS web site.  The first night, the memories came flooding back.  As a matter of fact, I had to just flat out quit because I felt that I was on overload.  But I must say, I was deeply moved by those who have passed.  In high school, we feel as if we are indestructible, invincible, and have the world at our doorstep.  We don't think of retirement, of the future, or our own mortality.  But some people's lives are cut short before their time. I have received an e-mail from a friend whom I have not seen or talked to since high school.  This was truly a wonderful surprise treat.  Thanks so much."  Ginny.  Please see Ginny's photo at Classmate Photos.

Joanna Moves to Virginia.  Joanna (Jo) Pitser Perry has moved to Middletown, Virginia.  She writes, "My husband and I retired to Virginia after 26 years in CT and are enjoying the beautiful weather; our first frost was this morning, quite a change from CT.  I'm still teaching part-time at the local community college and at Shenandoah University, keeping the brain cells active.  We walk the trails in the national forests and enjoy gardening."  Joanna Pitser Petty

Linda Announces Her New Position.  Linda Frankel has an exciting new job in New York.  Linda writes, "I have been named the National Executive Director of the Friends of Israel Disabled Veterans.  States the back of my card:  The Friends of Israel Disabled Veterans - Beit Halochem - raises funds to assist more than 50,000 disabled Israeli war veterans, as well as the countless innocent civilians who have become victims of terrorist attacks.  The Beit Halochem Rehabilitation Centers - in Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, Rehovot and Be'er Sheba - serve the wounded with individualized rehabilitation, sports and cultural programs, in an environment of 'normalcy,' growth and warmth.  They depend on Friends in the USA, and around the world, to help them regain health, dignity and quality of life."

Linda also shares good news about her daughter Shaina.  "My daughter, Shaina, passed the bar not long ago and is now formally Shaina Justine Jensen, Esq.  She's in Boise, Idaho and trying to decide where and how to branch out.  Stella, my beloved Sheltie, continues to make me and others smile a thousand times a day.  I've been forced back into the real work world by necessity, but that doesn't mean leaving Stella at home.  Unless I have appointments outside the office, she goes to work with me, riding the subway twice a day and learning to enjoy another neighborhood and another park (Bryant Park), and new friends.  Yup, I'm crazy. I guess that's what happens when you don't have grandchildren!  Looking forward to seeing you all next summer!"  Linda

Comments from the History Exam.  I received the following comments from you pertaining to the recent "History Exam"

Well.  I got them all right.  I guess I am a GEEZER.  My first car was a 1960 Ford with the dimmer on the floor. Gas was 23 cents at the RED HEAD station on 16th street and 8th Ave. I was so poor that I would buy 5 cents worth at a time!    Bob Harris

I believe Princess Summerfallwinterspring was a real person, as was Chief Thunderthud.  Judy Hicks Russell

I got them all right.  Pat took the same test.  She is from Singapore and scored 17 out of 20.  She screamed and said, "oh nooooo.....I AM NOT A GEEZER!"  So, I downgraded her to a 16 score.  LOL.  She said she learned everything she knows by reading the newspapers.  I told her that Will Rogers said the same thing.  Not too bad.  Mark Artis

Missing Classmates Found.  Jim Raines tracked down Lowell Patrick Kizzie and George Lucian Stiltner in the Huntington area.  He also informed me that Paul Prince is deceased.  Thanks Jim.

Fred Retires.  After 40 years as a tire engineer and manager in the tire and rubber business, I am retiring.  I worked for four companies during my career in the communities of Akron, OH; Portland, OR; Muscatine, IA; and Charlotte, NC.  During this time I saw vehicles and tires change radically along with the highways that they travel on.  I also traveled all over the USA in my earlier days as a field engineer helping customers and sales people in tire applications.  In my most recent assignment, I was able to see many countries overseas while visiting tire factories in these countries.  Now, I am looking forward to working on my “projects” at home with Jean, Beth, and Brian.  Current “projects” are in photography, music, art, computer, and home repair.  We will also travel as much as possible to follow the sun.  Fred Charles

New Cyberpony - Judith Benson Majher.  Judith and her husband Marion "Lefty" Majher (HHS'57) now live in Kitty Hawk, NC.  They moved there two years ago after Lefty retired from 40 years of teaching.  Judith says, "Lefty taught Art at Woodside High School (Newport News, VA), the Art Magnet program, and for years coached all sports, but baseball being his favorite.  But the older you get it got to be too much.  Lefty taught in West Virginia, Ohio, and then Virginia, a total of 40 years.  We vacationed here on the Outer Banks for 30 years, so when retirement rolled around Lefty said let's move to the beach, I said are you crazy!  Ha!  We've been here over two years and it's definitely a mixed bag living in Paradise.  Our first winter we had frozen pipes for four days, snowstorms, they said never happened.  Last September we went through a hurricane 125 MPH, minimal damage, February a north eastern storm that tore the whole side of the house off, my driveway has collapsed because of so much rain, etc."

"So, it's different.  But, our house looks at the marsh and has a fantastic view of the Albemarle Sound, we have a small johnboat that we take out of a small creek behind our house.  We love the ocean, 10 Min away, we love to fish, surf fish, walk on the beach and swim.  We go to the YMCA three times a week and work out real good, nothing like two old buff dudes.  Ha!  So as you see we stay busy.  Lefty paints, I do my crafts etc, read, just do what we want to.  Retirement is great.  I certainly would like to be put on your "Cyberponies" in hopes that I would get the e-mail addresses of some old friends."  Judith's e-mail address is jandlstudio@beachlink.com.

New Cyberpony - Richard Wilson.  Richard, and his wife Dixie, live in Huntington where Dick is President and CEO of American Benefit Corp.  They have three children and two grandchildren.  In addition to his busy work schedule, Dick finds time to play golf and enjoy the outdoors while camping, hiking, boating, and fishing.  You can e-mail Dick at rwilson@americanbenefitcorp.com.

New Cyberpony - Julia Keyser Sanders.  Another of our HHS 1960 classmates has been found and removed from the missing list.  Julia Keyser Sanders lives in Huntington with her husband Terry.  They have two daughters - Sherry and Ann.  Terry went to Barboursville High School.  Julia obtained an Associate Degree at Marshall University and worked in Food Services for many years.  She was Manager of the New Huntington High School cafeteria before retiring.  Her e-mail address is sandju@aol.com.

New Cyberpony - Donna Henry Hutchison.  Donna and her husband Allan (HHS'59) are enjoying retirement in Huntington.  They have been married 41 years and have two children and two grandchildren.  Donna writes, "Yes, we are looking forward to attending the reunion next summer.  Please do sign me up so I will be on the e-mail list.  I look forward to hearing from friends I haven't heard from in a long time."   You can contact Donna at s2jfans63@hotmail.com.  See Donna and Allan’s photo in Classmate Photos.

New Cyberpony - Michael Pigman.  I was able to connect to Michael Pigman through his registration on Classmates.  I asked him about high school and Michael told me, "Yes, I attended good ole Pony Express before transferring to HEHS.  I finished my senior year at East.  After graduating from HEHS, I moved to Marietta, Ohio to manage one of the family restaurant's.  After about two years in Marietta I moved to Columbus, Ohio where I operated a couple of Burger Kings."

"I now live north of Columbus, Ohio in a small town, Johnstown, Ohio. I retired September 2000 from Burger King Corp where I was a R.T.M.  I've been married twice and have two sons and one daughter from my first marriage.  I have three grandsons and three granddaughters.  I enjoy amateur radio as a hobby.  I have talked to over 300 countries as a 'ham'.  My call letters are K8YEU.  I operate at 3.862 almost every morning at 8 AM.  I was first licensed by the FCC as WN8YUV in the sixties."

"Almost two years ago my wife threw a surprise 60th birthday party for me.  In attendance from the class of HHS 1960 were Vernon Bell with his wife Phyllis, Pat Ferguson, Lewis Harper with his wife Brenda, Peggy Bias with her husband Al.  It was wonderful to see all of them.  We had a wonderful time."  Michael.  Michael's e-mail address is mpigman@earthlink.net.

New Cyberpony - Virginia Sullivan Spradley.   Virginia and her husband Bill live in Moore Haven, Florida.  They moved there four years ago from Cambridge, Ohio where Virginia was Administrative Assistant at the Cambridge Psychiatric Hospital.  Virginia writes, "It certainly sounds good to hear about the upcoming reunion in July.  The way the time has been flying by, it will be here before we know it.  I did receive the form to complete and I will get that to you also.  I hope to be able to make this reunion as I have not be able to attend any of the previous ones; especially since we will be at HHS.  I have not had a chance to be back at the ole school since graduation.  We plan on being in WVa around that period so that should work out fine."  Virginia's e-mail address is bvspradley@skyeone.com.

Charles Neighborgall Receives Top Award.  Charles Neighborgall was recently inducted into the Marshall University Lewis College of Business Hall of Fame.  Charlie, who is President and CEO of Neighborgall Construction is also current President of the Huntington Rotary Club.  As many of you know, Charlie is a real "mover and shaker" in the Huntington business community.  He is active in the local private economic development group (HADCO), on the Marshall Yeager Scholars Board and the Master Plan Commission.  He also led his company's construction of the new MU Dormitory Complex and Dining hall last year.  They are currently building the new Cancer Center and Translational Medicine floor at Cabell Huntington Hospital.  These facilities will be related to the new biotech center being built on the MU campus thru their research programs.  Charlie says, "Huntington seems to be on the move at long last."  That is great to hear and to know that Charlie is helping Huntington grow.

Michael Lerner Continues to Make Progress.  Here are Michael's own updates from mid and late September:

"Still attending Camp GO4IT four days a week.  'Camp Gimpy' changed to CAMP GO4IT at recommendation of my osteopathic doctor.  GO4IT stands for [G-rand O-pportunities 4 I-ntensive T-ransformation].  Yesterday (September 13th) was the 7-month anniversary of my paralysis and surgery, and although I'd like to be all well, I'm quite pleased with my progress up to this point.  I'll be discharged from outpatient therapy 10/6(2004 benefits used up). Still making progress.  Got a new brace for weak right leg which goes from upper thigh into shoe, and now I've walked as many as 800 ft without cane, etc. Increased grip strength and beginning drivers' evaluation hopefully in next few weeks.  Can swim 8 widths of therapy pool without flotation assist."

"My keyboard playing improves (keyboard was a gift from Bill Weaver a

couple of years ago.  Thanks, Bill) to the extent that "REPETITIVE MOTION" was born.  I am joined by vocalist, Beth Coon, program director of the Hand Clinic at the rehab hospital and Gary Nelson, a great saxophonist with whom I played some professionally in the 70s and who is now musical minister at a local church. We'll play for the weekly tea in the "Conservatory" at Cardinal Hill hospital on 10/21.  We'll be doing tunes, the titles of which have a connection with rehab/recovery like: 'Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, start all over again'; 'What are you doin' the rest of your life'; 'Mercy, Mercy'; 'They can't take that away from me'; and last, but not least, 'Don't get around much, anymore'  Looking forward to it (getting around that is)."  You can see Michael and the Repetitive Motion in Classmate Photos.

Michael has put new lyrics to the tune of the late, great Burl Ives' song 'a little bitty tear got me down.'  "A little bag of germs slammed me down;  Left me paralyzed on the ground;  Couldn't even lift a pound when that little bag of germs slammed mm down.  Now I’m on the mend as you can see;  I'm heading for a total victory.  I go around stompin' on the ground; no little bag of germs can keep me down.'"

Michael says, "I am amazed how many people I've met at the hospital with connections to WVa, Huntington, or Marshall.  Really small world."  Michael

Mark And Pat Tie The Knot.  Please see the exciting news about Mark and Pat Artis' recent wedding.  Photos are on his website at: http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/cowtownmopars/TexasOutsiders/Wedding.html

Here is Mark's story.

"Well Fred, you asked for it...here is the way I saw it........We were in Memphis for the PRO/Edelbrock World Finals......qualified the car on Friday and then the rains came.....in the meantime we broke the transmission......changed to the spare Friday nite......it was still raining......"

"On Saturday morning, around 20 or so of our racer friends all were having breakfast in lovely downtown Millington, TN........My partner's wife, Cindy Kuhn, handed me a card...I thought it was a belated Birthday card...nope....not hardly...with Pat sitting next to me, I opened it and it was a lengthy dialogue about "how I was the cat's meow"..or so....and at the bottom, it said..."Mark, will you marry me today?...if not, I will just ask you again next week"...Pat..........So I said ..."Sure, Why NOT"....little did I know that I was the LAST to know.......Even all of the Pro/Edelbrock folks from California knew...Charlie Harmon, the V.P. of PRO was one of the ringleaders, along with most of my crew, close friends and others....I had wondered why our good friends, Mark and Joanne Walter, the chaplin from the other racing organization(NSCA) was at a PRO event....Well, around 3pm that afternoon...it was still raining......the "Preacher Man" , Mark Walter, came by and wanted my full name.......ok...no problem..what it this for?.....Well Mark, you are getting married in about an hour.........haha.....ok..."

"My racing partner, Damon Kuhn and Arch Rival, Clay Kossuth ushered the beautiful bride over to the rear of our trailer and with most of the racers and fans in attendance...many did not have anything better to do..with the rain.....I was told to sit my Heineken down...ok...now...say I do, I will and kiss the bride...my beer didn't even get hot.......lol.......We were in the process of cooking our world-famous GenuineTexasRoadKillChili and everyone brought something...the rings fit, had a wedding cake and champagne......the whole schmear......it was fabulous......Pat is teriffic and I HAVE ALL OF THE CULPRIT'S NAMES AND KNOW WHERE THEY LIVE...Will get em back......lol........."

"We finally got to race on Monday and we went to the third round and again broke another Jerico trans.....this time it exploded ...... Have one repaired for our TexasOutsiders finals this weekend and will wing it once more......expecting around 300 or so for the race and party Friday and Saturday....... Many of the ones that BUSHWACKED ME WILL BE HERE.......OH I AM GONNA LOVE THIS.... all is well.....Pat is a soul mate.....and I am blessed with some of the best friends that anyone could ever ask for........"  Mark

Tom Trippy Found.  Both Bill Garner and Richard Wilson gave me Tom's new address in Oviedo, FL.  Thanks fellows.  Tom received his reunion invitation and has replied.

Chuck and Jim Stay in Touch.  Chuck Kinder tells me, about Jim Handloser. "Jim & I stay in close touch actually. He was my best schoolboy pal & I remember him with great affection. I had an early copy of ...DANCER sent to him & he claims he read it in two sittings (he's mentioned in it, plus I acknowledge his abiding friendship in the acknowledgements). I'm going to be in NYNY for about a week giving readings & doing book signings etc, in mid November, so I'll surely see old Jim then."  Chuck also says that he hopes to make the class reunion in July 2005 but he may have a conflict with "book business" in Italy about that time.  Thinking of his old classmates, Chuck relates, "Judging from the pictures you disseminate, all of our old female classmates remain utter babes. But what happened to us, the old dogs? We're the ones who have lost that losing battle to gravity & grayness. Oh, well.  All the best," Chuck.  Thank you Chuck for the autographed copy of your new book - LAST MOUNTAIN DANCER.

Brodofs and Angels Meet in Vienna.  Terry Brodof tells the story of this recent reunion.  "Sandy and I visited with Bill and Mona Angel on September 9 in Vienna.  We were on a river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest and this was one of our stops.  Bill and I were classmates at Cammack.  Bill went away to high school after Cammack and I only saw him occasionally.  Actually, I last saw him in 1980 or 81 when he was in Huntington for what I call his annual pilgrimage.  I met Mona for the first time then.  This meeting lasted all of 3 minutes."

"We had previously agreed to meet in front of St. Stephens Cathedral early afternoon.   It was not difficult to recognize Bill because he was wearing a Marshall shirt and West Virginia (state, not university) cap.  Underneath the shirt he pointed out a WVa (state, not university) shirt.  Allegiance to one's hometown doesn't necessarily diminish with time or geography."

"Vienna is a lovely town, a combination of old and new Europe.  Bill and Mona showed us sights that a tourist doesn't often see.  Since we always take some kind of formal city tour we have been inundated with cathedrals, castles and palaces.  As required of all visitors to Vienna we stopped for apple strudel and coffee. They took us to their condo via a tram and, I think, two buses.  Public transportation is wonderful; saw no expressways in the city.  We ate dinner in a wine restaurant which, from what I understand, is unique to Vienna.   These restaurants are associated with a local vineyard and are like pubs in England and Ireland; neighborhood gathering places.  Since Vienna is surrounded by vineyards (within city limits) there is a tradition that certain restaurants will open for a period of time and then close to allow other neighborhood vineyards to open their restaurants."

"It was great seeing Bill again and meeting Mona.  Bill still calls himself the class clown."  Terry.  See Classmate Photos for their photos.

Bruce is Doing Well After Heart Surgery.  Bruce Lansaw tells me, "I've been to the Cleveland Clinic twice - 'Quad' By Pass in Oct '01 & repair of an 'Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm' four weeks ago. All is well."  We wish Bruce continued success in his healing.  Bruce is a very close "friend of the class", since he did not actually attend HHS with our class.  He attended Marshall HS.  Bruce's connection with members of our class is unique because he did attend both Cammack and West Junior High schools.

Hurricane Season is Over.  Our 43 classmates living in Florida, along with the many others living on the US East Coast, are very happy to see the hurricane season pass.  Some have reported damage, and all have been disturbed and affected.  Hopefully, "normal" lives can begin again and the winter season will be mild.

Rhys Retires from the West Virginia Lottery.  Rhys Evans advises that he retired the first of August as Sales Manager of the West Virginia Lottery.  He says, "I earned my masters (captain) license from the U. S. Coast Guard and am doing a lot of networking to put it to work.  Staring off slow but making progress.  I am loving every minute of everything involved.  Meanwhile, I'm doing consulting work for people aspiring to become Limited Video Lottery Agents.  Strange job description for an invoice that says "Evans Marine Services".  Oh well, just a small chunk of our ever-changing global economy."  Rhys also relates, "Yes, I have been to Ed Schaffer's marina.  He has done an outstanding job cleaning up and putting together what was a real mess.  I'm amazed at what he has done.  I try to call on him once a month."  Rhys Evans

Larry Announces Retirement Plan.  Larry Clark has announced his intensions to retire from Ashland Distribution Company, where he is Senior Account Manager, at the end of the year.  Larry and Dee are going to stay in Columbus, OH after retirement.  Larry’s plan is to travel, volunteer, and play a lot of golf.  Congratulations Larry.

Jerry Hagley.  Jerry is working at the Huntington Museum of Art in the Security Staff.  Please see his photo at Classmate Photos.

Mary Moffat Jones.  See Mary and Bob Jones’ family photo in Classmate Photos.  Bob had a very unfortunate accident at work this year during which some toes were severed from one foot.  I understand that he is recovering well.

Jim Callaway is Still Running.  Jim tells me that he, “Ran the local Coronado 15K race on July 4th - won my age group for the 6th time since returning and was in top 5% of over 3K runners - still having fun on the road racing circuit!”  Good going Jim.  See a recent photo of Jim in Classmate Photos.

Mary Lou Eaton Williams.  See a recent photo of Mary Lou in Classmate Photos.  Mary Lou is a retired elementary school teacher in Huntington.  She keeps busy volunteering at her previous school and church.

David Jenkins Plans to Attend.  David advises, "Jane and I are planning to attend the 2005 reunion.  We trust that it will all fit together so we can do that.  We have been in Huntington only three times since 1992.  We look forward to meeting people I have not seen since high school."  David Jenkins

Jane and Charles Travel to France.  Jane Beckett Bradley and husband Charles are taking a trip to France.  Jane advises, "We're leaving the September 27th for two weeks in the French Burgundy wine country.  We are renting a van, since there will be 3 couples. One of our group has visited this area before and has John Pierre (love that name) arranging our winery tours, tastings, and LESSONS.  So, we ought to return with a little more knowledge of French wines--at least the Burgundy ones. After the first week of wine, we will be wandering around Provence taking in the sites. That section of the trip is a bit more relaxed. We are looking forward to it all."  Jane.

Joe And Sutton on "Girls Weekend"  Joe McVay tells the story.  "The love of my life, Sutton, my seven year old granddaughter, is staying with me for 'Girls Weekend'.  We have been to the beauty salon and had her hair put into a twist, had her nails done extra looooong, and a tattoo on the bottom of her left foot.  We know her mother will check her all over to try and find the tattoo.  We think she will miss this one. lol.  It was Sutton's idea to put it on the bottom of her foot. I love this kid."

"We just got home from the new Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville.  It was a deal put together with some other investors and of course we got the extra good treatment.  I just hope that everyone else is treated the same.  When the waitress asked us what we wanted to drink, we had a discussion and Sutton decided to get a Banana/Strawberry smoothie.  When the waitress asked me what I wanted to drink, and before I could say anything, Sutton told the waitress that her Mommie said that Jean Paul could only have one beer.  The waitress was laughing so hard she had to sit down.  I also had a smoothie.  Then the waitress told everyone in the restaurant what Sutton had said.  I love that Sutton sooo much.  She makes me laugh and feel good all the time.  The child ain't rite!"

"Tomorrow we will be going to Claire's Jewelry Store (buy 2 and get one free.) at the Mall then to Imax to see 'The Bugs'.  I forgot, I will fix breakfast first thing in the morning just like my grandmother did for me when I would spend the night with her.  Eggs, bacon, and homemade biscuits (well mine will be sorta homemade).  Jean Paul.  P.S. Jean Paul is what my two grandchildren  call me.  I have an 11 year old grandson, Wilson, who is just as great."
